Lea Cerf Pereyra immigrated to Philadelphia from Bordeaux, France shortly after her marriage to Jacob Pereyra in 1847. Bordeaux contained a not insignificant Jewish population in the 18th century, but as the city’s prosperity declined after the revolution, many of the city’s Jews moved elsewhere. Little is known with any certainty about the Pereyras once they arrived in the United States.
