Caroline “Caro” Agnes Moise Lopez

The great-granddaughter of Abraham Moise, Caroline was one the older of two children—both daughters—born to Charles Henry and Theodora Sydney Moise. Through her numerous cousins and vast family connections, she was related to nearly every prominent Jewish family in Charleston. In 1882 Caro, as she was known, married Julian Lee Lopez, whose father had built the second home for congregation Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim. Caro died only three years after their marriage. This portrait was painted by her grandfather, Theodore Sydney Moise, when Caro visited him in Louisiana.
