Isaac Mendes Seixas Nathan

Seixas Nathan was the only child born to Simon Nathan and Grace Mendes Seixas Nathan, sister of Gershom Mendes Seixas. He came to possess vast real estate in New York and was very active in finance as well, numbering among the signers of the constitution of the New York Stock Exchange in 1817. He served as an official of the United States Customs House in New York and as president of the New York Commercial Exchange Association. He became an early member of the Saint Nicholas Society—an organization founded by Washington Irving, among others, to commemorate New York’s history—and served as parnas of Shearith Israel. In 1808 he married Sarah Seixas, his cousin and the daughter of Zipporah Seixas. They had fifteen children.
