Mrs. Louis Mann

This conservatively dressed woman whose likeness was recorded at the end of the Civil War has come down to us only as Mrs. Louis Mann. A handful of details are known about her husband, a German immigrant who, along with his brothers, settled in Pennsylvania in the 1840s and almost certainly worked as a peddler. By the 1860s he was living in Laurens, South Carolina, where he ran a successful dry goods business.
