Although the infant in the lap of the sixteen-year-old Selina Seixas here remains unidentified, it is likely niece or nephew. Born on Staten Island in 1838, Selina had eight older siblings. She was the second to last child born to Joshua and Henrietta Raphael Seixas and granddaughter of the great hazan Gershom Mendes Seixas. Her siblings included Seraphine and Gershom Arnold. In 1857 she married merchant Lionel Moses, son of Joshua and Sarah Rodriguez Brandon Moses. They had seven children, including Blanche, Sarah and Gershom Arnold, whom they raised in New York.
