Henrietta Raphael Seixas

Born in Virginia in 1804, Henrietta Raphael was the youngest of Solomon Rapahel’s five children. Around 1820 she married Joshua Seixas, son of hazan Gershom Mendes Seixas, early spiritual leader of the American Jewish community. The couple lived in Richmond for a bit, followed by a period in New York, a few years in Charlestown, Massachusetts, before finally settling back in New York in the late 1830s. They had ten children, including Gershom, Selina and Seraphine.
