Little is known of Sophia Phillip’s background. She was born inEngland in 1810, though the names of her parents and the date of herarrival to the United States remains a mystery. In 1835 she marriedIsaac Phillips, son of Naphtaliand Rachel Seixas Phillips. They livedin New York and had six children, including Rachel.In 1855, with her youngest child only two years old, Sophia died. Herhusband would remarry the following year.
