Very little is known about the couple depicted in this silhouette. William Vogel was born in Bavaria, Henriette in Baden. They lived in Philadelphia, for a time sharing a house with the Manrow family. It is unknown whether they had any children, nor is it clear what happened to Henriette after William was buried in the cemetery of Congregation Adath Jeshurun on July 10, 1874.
