Isaac Loewengardt was born in Laudenbach, Bavaria, and immigrated to the United States in 1866, at the age of 19. He settled in New Orleans where he worked as a silversmith. There he married Amelia Scooler, daughter of Maurice Scooler, also a German immigrant silversmith as well as an importer. They had ten children.
