The daughter of Maurice Scooler and Mary Ann Levy Scooler, Amelia Scooler was born and raised in New Orleans. She was one of four children. Her father, an immigrant from Bavaria, worked as a silversmith, jeweler, and importer. In the years after the Civil War, Maurice Scooler was known for his Mardi Gras favors and trinkets.
Amelia married Isaac Loewengardt, who, like Amelia’s father, was an immigrant from Bavaria and a silversmith. Amelia and Isaac had ten children whom they raised in New Orleans.
