Lewis Lewis was born in Carmarthen, Wales. Although it is unknown precisely when, he settled in London at some point and in his early twenties and married Susan Soloman. They had ten children, and the family relocated to New York in the early 1830s. Of the ten Lewis children, daughter Bessie married Solomon Leopold Jacobs, while Ellen and Henry, married siblings Joseph and Hannah Bach respectively. In 1847, Hannah and Henry’s son Hyman married Edith Rosalie Tobias, daughter of Isaac Alfred and Hermione Hendricks Tobias.
