Rosa Katzenberg and her husband, Julius, immigrated from Germany to the United States in 1849. Julius was a Hebrew teacher and author of Jewish pedagogical texts. Upon their arrival, the couple first lived on the Lower East Side, but by the 1870s had moved up to 52 Street. In 1856 Rosa gave birth to their daughter, Eliza.
