Little is known of Sophia Phillip’s background. She was born in England in 1810, though the names of her parents and the date of her arrival to the United States remains a mystery. In 1835, she married Isaac Phillips, son of Naphtali and Rachel Seixas Phillips. Sophia and Isaac lived in New York and had six children, including Rachel. In 1855, with her youngest child only two years old, Sophia died. Her husband would remarry the following year.
